Writing With Deep Focus

I’ve been reading this book called Deep Work, and it’s all about being focused and successful in a distracted world. It’s been so eye opening, and it gives great advice on what you can do to get done what matters in very little time.

I always asked myself why I can’t focus anymore after I’ve been writing for 3 hours. My brain is tired, I can’t produce quality work, and I have to stop for the day. I used to get frustrated because I want to work all day on my days off, but I give out. I felt so unproductive.

Then, I learned through the book that our brains are usually only capable of 3-4 hours of this thing called Deep Work. Where we are completely distraction free, and zoned in on our important work and able to make huge strides in it.

Learning this helped me feel so much better about the work I do in a little time, because it’s the important work that gets done, and I know I did my best.

I also found the Deep Focus playlists on Spotify really do help to slow my mind down, stop thinking of other things, and zone in during my 3 hours of magic deep work time.

I highly recommend trying one of these playlists by searching “deep focus music” on Spotify or wherever you listen, and see what it does for your brain. I think you’ll be amazed at how focused you can become. You can achieve so much in only a few hours every day , and it’s all the time you really need. ✨

Where Have I Been? A Journal Entry on The Last Few Years

Introduction: Hey everyone! Happy New Year! I'm back! I know I haven't posted in over a year and I am here to tell you all about why and what's been going on. I hope your holidays went well, your writing and reading has been joyful, and that you are smashing your goals for the month already. I hope you are doing things you love that bring you happiness and may this year be the best for you! Things Didn't Go As I Planned... Here I am in 2026, not published, not a lot of my goals met that I have set year after year. Some new and some old. Putting out all my words of wisdom, writer advice, and failing at it myself. Story of my life. Lol  I know the secrets, but doing them for myself is a whole different ball game. I've been on a journey these last 5 years since I started writing and I've learned a lot, experienced a lot, and grown up a lot all on the road to success. It will happen for me. Just a few years later than I planned, and that is okay. My writing journey ...

Writing What You "should be" writing vs. Writing What you Love

As this year comes to a close, I wanted to share about the battle of writing what you think you should be writing vs. what you love. When I first started writing, I thought I should write a YA fantasy very much along the lines of Twilight. Now, I still love Twilight to this day as much as my 13 year old heart did, and I will forever be in the fandom and my heart in Forks, WA, but as I was writing my Twilight-esque book, I noticed it got harder and harder as I went on. I wasn't loving the book anymore. It's because I was reading and loving all of these steamy contemporary billionaire romance novels and that is where my heart was, and what I was supposed to be writing. Not forcing out a book that teenage me would like. Or I found "more respectable or credible" somehow. But the truth was I wasn’t reading YA anymore and  I shouldn’t have been writing in a genre I wasn’t passionate about anymore.   So, I quickly wrapped up that book to give myself some closure and then s...

February 2026 Recap Introduction: Hey everyone! I hope you had a fabulous month! My February flew by, but I enjoyed every moment and was intentional with almost every day! I am continuing on in this new series where I recap each month to keep track of my year from the small stuff to the big stuff, so when January 1st 2027 gets here I'm not left thinking "What the heck happened in 2026?" If you missed January's recap where I explain more on this process and how I'm keeping track, you can read that here.  Recapping in Four Parts: Writing, Reading, Health, And Other Life Stuff Writing Habit Tracker: 20/28 writing days. Although the other 8 were still writing days for me. If you know, you know. Lol  Last month I told you I started a new book, and I am currently still drafting that book. I am making good progress and have been showing up daily to get in my word count! I have been back to my roots doing word sprints and that has really helped as well. Woo hoo! I am ...
