About Me & This Blog

Who Am I?

Hi! Welcome to my blog. I’m R L Tynes. I'm a romance reader, writer, coffee lover, cat mom, fangirl, and knowledge seeker trying her best at slow living by prioritizing peace and joy. I'm always searching for my next hobby, and when I'm not doing that, I'm probably sleeping way to much. Lol

Why did I choose to start a blog in 2023?

I kept thinking about how I wanted a meaningful, safe, and cozy space to have an online presence in that was 100% positive, uplifting, and in my control.  A place that didn't leave my mind spinning and fill me with negative feelings like social media sometimes can. A place to share longform content, document my own writing and publishing journey, and share more information for writers.

I also thought I would love to blog, and I still read blogs to this day, finding helpful information through them. I want to be apart of and contribute to the author/blogger community. So here we are like it's 2007, and I can live out my childhood Gilmore Girls dream era fantasies about how fire Rebecca Thirstin's Blog must have been. (Hardcore Gilmore Girls Fans will know.)

What You Will Find On This Blog

Here you will find a collection of my thoughts on numerous topics surrounding the art of reading and writing books. Mostly romance books because that is what I write and what I love to read. You may also find some miscellaneous topics on the blog as well such as health/fitness and hobbies I’m into. Which, let's face it, whole body wellness and living on the day to day go hand in hand with writing and creativity.

I have created some helpful tabs for you at the top if you are on your own journey of writing and publishing as well. I wrote them for the me a few years ago who wanted an everything checklist. My favorite books on writing craft that have changed my life are also under my recommended reads tab for you.

How I Operate This Blog & How You Can Support Me

This blog runs on my pure joy and passion for the craft. I absolutely love to blog and share all I've learned on my journey so maybe it can help the next person. Just commenting on my posts, sharing the link with your friends, or on social media means the world to me, and helps this blog reach the people who may need it.

With this being a passion project, it is not a main source of income for me. I don't run ads on this blog, and love to keep it uncluttered for everyone's reading experience.

That being said, I do have a "support me" button on my blog where you can leave me a tip with Ko-fi if you love my content and want to support my blog.

I also have a Shop My page and an Amazon Favorites page where I can potentially earn commissions on products you buy through my links. (At no extra cost to you.) I genuinely only put products on there that are my tried and true that I use on a daily or regular basis.

Wrap Up

If you made it this far, thank you so much for joining me. I hope my content helps you on your journey. More importantly, I hope you leave here feeling inspired and uplifted.

I'd love for you to leave me a comment telling me about yourself, and what you would like to see on this blog.

Happy Writing & Reading,

R L Tynes

Where Have I Been? A Journal Entry on The Last Few Years

Introduction: Hey everyone! Happy New Year! I'm back! I know I haven't posted in over a year and I am here to tell you all about why and what's been going on. I hope your holidays went well, your writing and reading has been joyful, and that you are smashing your goals for the month already. I hope you are doing things you love that bring you happiness and may this year be the best for you! Things Didn't Go As I Planned... Here I am in 2026, not published, not a lot of my goals met that I have set year after year. Some new and some old. Putting out all my words of wisdom, writer advice, and failing at it myself. Story of my life. Lol  I know the secrets, but doing them for myself is a whole different ball game. I've been on a journey these last 5 years since I started writing and I've learned a lot, experienced a lot, and grown up a lot all on the road to success. It will happen for me. Just a few years later than I planned, and that is okay. My writing journey ...

Writing What You "should be" writing vs. Writing What you Love

As this year comes to a close, I wanted to share about the battle of writing what you think you should be writing vs. what you love. When I first started writing, I thought I should write a YA fantasy very much along the lines of Twilight. Now, I still love Twilight to this day as much as my 13 year old heart did, and I will forever be in the fandom and my heart in Forks, WA, but as I was writing my Twilight-esque book, I noticed it got harder and harder as I went on. I wasn't loving the book anymore. It's because I was reading and loving all of these steamy contemporary billionaire romance novels and that is where my heart was, and what I was supposed to be writing. Not forcing out a book that teenage me would like. Or I found "more respectable or credible" somehow. But the truth was I wasn’t reading YA anymore and  I shouldn’t have been writing in a genre I wasn’t passionate about anymore.   So, I quickly wrapped up that book to give myself some closure and then s...
