March 2026 Recap

March 2026 Recap

Introduction:

Hey everyone! I hope you had a great month! Spring is here! My March was slower than February, and I really got to enjoy it and savor the changing weather, new blossoms, and time outside. I am loving this new series where I recap each month to keep track of my year from the small stuff to the big stuff, so when January 1st 2027 gets here I'm not left thinking "What the heck happened in 2026?" It also helps me to stay on track with my goals and I mainly want to build a consistent writing habit along with healthier habits. If you missed January's recap where I explain more on this process and how I'm keeping track, you can read that here.  And if you missed February's recap you can read that here.

Recapping in Four Parts: Writing, Reading, Health, And Other Life Stuff

Writing

Habit Tracker: 26/31 writing days. That's 84%! Woo Hoo!!! Writing is my priority, and I'm really proud of myself for showing up most days. I even had a hard week this month where I got stuck, but I made it through, and progress has been good!

I'm currently still drafting with plans to release this Spring. So I need to be on top of everything the next two weeks. Lol I'm not sharing much yet, other than I love this book, and the characters. It has some of my favorite tropes, and I'm glad this is the story I chose to debut with. Be prepared for friends to lovers who, let's face it, are oblivious and are really together and they don't know it. Because friends don't look at each other, touch each other,  or cuddle like that. Swoon.

Blurb Sneak Peak:

“Blake Montgomery is mine. My obsession. Mine to protect. Mine to possess body, mind, and soul. If that’s not love than everyone else is doing it wrong.”

And that's the whole vibe! If you are all about obsession and possession, I think you'll love this book!

I share short weekly progress updates on my new website that you can find here, and I will share more on my ghosted social media platforms when I finish drafting. More importantly, my newsletter will be the best place to get updates from me. If you aren't signed up for that you can do that here.

Reading

Like February, March was another slow month of reading for me.  Again, my focus has been on writing, so I'm not mad about it. I do really want to try and up my non-fiction reading for April though so I may make that a goal. I finished 6 books and loved every single one of them! That's 2 more than last month! Yay!

My favorite was the 3rd book in The Rogue Bonds Series. It's a M/M alien romance series I'm obsessed with. The world building is unique, original, and I love the tropes. It's very much a "bonded at first sight" series and I eat that up. Lol Here's the link to the series if you want to check it out. The author narrates it himself, and book four will be out in May.

My hubby and I finished one of our 3 non-fiction reads, a bird trivia book and we loved it! You can check it out here if you want a cool coffee table book, or want to learn more about birds. I loved it so much I gifted it in my writing slump box swap! We did this in Lindsay's Writer's Retreat over on discord and if you aren't a member, it's an awesome uplifting and supportive writer's space. We are still reading a few pages out of the other two we have left  most nights, and want to finish these up before adding another book back in rotation.

I am still currently buddy reading for the first time ever with my author friend! We are reading The Happy Writer by Marissa Meyer.  I am slowly making my way through this one, but I actually am taking notes of the assignements I want to do in this one, and I completed one of them this month! I chose to make an inspiration list. This is a brainstorm list of everything I love to read about, and write about. It’s organized by sections like tropes, settings, characters, etc.  I had so much fun doing this, and left feeling so inspired and ready to write. And I love knowing that when I get stuck or need to brainstorm, it's there to help me remember what I love and give me writing ideas all over again. This example is on pg. 55 of the book and it's still free to read in KU as of this post! This month I will choose another assignment to do from this book and I can't wait!

Health

I did my daily habit tracker calendar for the second month since it arrived in February! Woo hoo! I love this tracker, and now I finally have data and comparisons! I love tracking my progress, and I know this is helping me to reach my overall goals for the year already! I will say I didn’t adjust my goals to be less for March and I should have. I was going to, but I always think I can do it all. Lol so for April I should really try not to be stubborn and make more changes.

Water
After last months flop, I halved my water goal. This time I went for 3 glasses or 24oz. a day and I did way better this month! 24/31 days or 77% complete! Woo hoo! I am planning on keeping this goal set at the same amount until it feels easy and I am naturally going for that refill. I will eventually get this back up to 48oz.

Intentional Movement
I did this habit 11/31 days or 35%. I was slightly better than last month, but I still have lots of room for improvement here, and I've already implemented daily walks with my husband outside over the last week as a way to help me. Having him there is automatic accountability and we enjoy time in nature seeing all the wildlife. I'm also back on my Get Fit With Rick videos on youtube that help me keep showing up as well. Again, I was trying to do too much, and I know I need to start small and build. Let's try this again shall we.

Sleep (7-9 hours)
I did this habit 24/31 days or 77%. This was much better than last month at 57%. I still need to get this up higher, but I'm happy with my improvement so far and my plan of making myself go to bed earlier, or allowing time to sleep in so I can work at night and thrive if I choose to.

Skin Care/ Self Care
Morning Skincare: 24/31 days or 77%
Evening Skincare: 14/28 days or 45%
Overall, my morning skincare is on par with February and I'm good with that number and will aim to get a few more days checked off in April. My evening number still needs some work, but this is an improvement from February so a win is a win. Lol I'm just going to have to be adult about this one, and stick to a time, if I want to see that number rise.

Journaling
Habit Tracker: 31/31 days or 100%
Journaling is still the easiest habit for me. It's a non-negotiable for my mental health and I really enjoy doing it. I am still keeping it short and doing it in apps, but it works. I haven't gotten around to my DIY  traveler's journal yet, but all my supplies came in, and I think it is going to be so beautiful. It's pink and gold! Eeek! I still have plans to start physically journaling, but of course I want to make my DIY journal cover first, and then it's game on! I even bought some Moleskin notebooks for a bargain at TJ Maxx.

Vitamins
28/31 Days or 90%
This is on par with last month! I am still taking a women's daily, (Garden of Life), and have now added 2 fiber gummies a day. I also take an extra vitamin D. I am also going to be adding CBD oil into my routine and  I'm excited about that. Medical Cannabis (Sativa) reset my body to homeostasis and reset my brain, but I don't want it for a daily supplement, only as needed if I am feeling mentally not okay again. I also need to schedule a wellness appointment because I do want to know if my body needs anything specific, but overall I'm feeling good!

Here are some books if you want to learn more about Medical Cannabis and CBD that I'm currently reading and enjoying! (I buy used on ThriftBooks!)

Other Life Stuff

Time Outside/Birding & Other Wildlife
I spent time outside walking with my hubby and finding new nature trails. It's Spring, and we have seen birds, butterflies, snakes, alligators, foxes, rabbits, and more! Nature is amazing and good for the soul. The highlight was seeing a tufted titmouse bird visit my feeder in my backyard for the first time, and seeing a rabbit visit my backyard twice this month! I also got my first hummingbird visitor on the 30th! My backyard is about to be busy!

Films/TV

Again, I wasn't reading much this month due to writing, so film is where that time went. I started off by finally watching the movie Challengers and I'm obsessed. I immediately told my sister I want to start playing tennis with her again so hopefully we'll pull out our dusty rackets and get to it. Lol I also finally watched Saltburn after loving Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights and I absolutely loved that one too. I love her style! I re-watched The Mummy 1 & 2 because it's been a long time and those are some of my favorite movies!  I also watched Greenland 1 & 2. I liked them, but it's not something I would watch more than one time. I also watched Pillion and I really liked this story. It's more coming of age than anything, and I enjoyed it. My husband and I also started a watchlist together on the notes app where we can list shows and movies we want to watch together and the first one I picked was Heartstopper. I love it and have seen it before, and now we are on season 2 together and he loves it too! He picked Cyberpunk and I'm really enjoying it so far, but bracing myself for a tragic ending. Lol I like this new tradition though! I also re-heated Heated Rivalry one Sunday this month. If you know, you know. Lol

Family
I helped my husband make his next 12 week running program this month. His next big goal is to run a half marathon this year! I also cheered him on this month as he completed a Death By 10K event where he had to run 5 10Ks in 12 hours. He finished and got that coffin trophy! I'm so proud of him, and all his health and fitness achievements. Just call me coach and his manager at this point. Lol

Conclusion
March was a great month and I really did savor it. I made progress in my story, even though I was stuck for about a week at one point, I chugged along, and now the story is back to flowing again. I am still feeling well, happy, and inspired, and I am so grateful for that!  I am still on track to publish this year and that is my dream. I can't wait to see all the good things coming in April!

Let me know in the comments below how your March was and if you reached your goals or what you worked on. Do you track your habits too?

As always,
Happy Writing & Reading!

Where Have I Been? A Journal Entry on The Last Few Years

Introduction: Hey everyone! Happy New Year! I'm back! I know I haven't posted in over a year and I am here to tell you all about why and what's been going on. I hope your holidays went well, your writing and reading has been joyful, and that you are smashing your goals for the month already. I hope you are doing things you love that bring you happiness and may this year be the best for you! Things Didn't Go As I Planned... Here I am in 2026, not published, not a lot of my goals met that I have set year after year. Some new and some old. Putting out all my words of wisdom, writer advice, and failing at it myself. Story of my life. Lol  I know the secrets, but doing them for myself is a whole different ball game. I've been on a journey these last 5 years since I started writing and I've learned a lot, experienced a lot, and grown up a lot all on the road to success. It will happen for me. Just a few years later than I planned, and that is okay. My writing journey ...

Writing What You "should be" writing vs. Writing What you Love

As this year comes to a close, I wanted to share about the battle of writing what you think you should be writing vs. what you love. When I first started writing, I thought I should write a YA fantasy very much along the lines of Twilight. Now, I still love Twilight to this day as much as my 13 year old heart did, and I will forever be in the fandom and my heart in Forks, WA, but as I was writing my Twilight-esque book, I noticed it got harder and harder as I went on. I wasn't loving the book anymore. It's because I was reading and loving all of these steamy contemporary billionaire romance novels and that is where my heart was, and what I was supposed to be writing. Not forcing out a book that teenage me would like. Or I found "more respectable or credible" somehow. But the truth was I wasn’t reading YA anymore and  I shouldn’t have been writing in a genre I wasn’t passionate about anymore.   So, I quickly wrapped up that book to give myself some closure and then s...

February 2026 Recap

February 2026 Recap Introduction: Hey everyone! I hope you had a fabulous month! My February flew by, but I enjoyed every moment and was intentional with almost every day! I am continuing on in this new series where I recap each month to keep track of my year from the small stuff to the big stuff, so when January 1st 2027 gets here I'm not left thinking "What the heck happened in 2026?" If you missed January's recap where I explain more on this process and how I'm keeping track, you can read that here.  Recapping in Four Parts: Writing, Reading, Health, And Other Life Stuff Writing Habit Tracker: 20/28 writing days. Although the other 8 were still writing days for me. If you know, you know. Lol  Last month I told you I started a new book, and I am currently still drafting that book. I am making good progress and have been showing up daily to get in my word count! I have been back to my roots doing word sprints and that has really helped as well. Woo hoo! I am ...
