Favorite Author Education Finds: January-April 2026

Introduction

Welcome to a new series! I wanted to start this because I am always finding great articles and other information around the internet that is free author gold. I want there to be a place for you to come find information on interesting topics, the latest trends, or latest self or trad publishing news. As a bonus, this also helps me keep these resources organized for myself rather than saving them all in chaos to my bookmarks bar. Lol

Happy Learning!

My Favorite Resources

The Finds

BookBub Partners Blog

-Starting off strong, this is a great blog post on the best resources to find self-publishing news on! If you don't look at any other links below, you'll stay up to date on all the big things by following/subscribing to these recommended sources.

-I thought this was a great checklist and really makes you think about the ways to market on your book launch.

- I switched to BookBub Author websites in March and I can't rave about them enough, and now they have newsletter tools included with unlimited subscribers all in one place! It is so easy to set up and I had a website and newsletter up and running in less than 30 minutes. I highly recommend this platform!

Written Word Media

-This is a fantastic article for going into the new year. If you've been out of the self publishing game a while, or are totally new to the business this is perfect at getting you up to speed. (Just know I do not agree with GenAI use in any part of this business. From writing, publishing, cover design, artwork, marketing and more.)

-I thought this was a great place to start that helps TikTok not feel overwhelming and simplifies the type of content you need on there.

-This was a comfort read. Seriously. Readers haven't really changed and as authors, I love that we can still rely on those classic methods to reach our audience. The newsletter will never die.

-Fantastic article at explaining the KDP Dashboard for newbies and vets who never really paid attention to it before.

- This is a great explanation of marketing that gives you a plan, and erases overwhelm.

Reedsy

-This gave me good ideas and really got my gears moving on how to make my website truly the main destination that readers want to visit first instead of retailers. A place they know they will get news first and create a content ecosystem that offers them more along with interactive features.

-I haven't explored all of these websites personally, but you may find a gem in here! I also love a list of lists if you can't tell by this post and had to include one here where you may find the answers to all your questions.

Draft2Digital

-The biggest news going around right now is Draft2Digital announcing new fees.

The Authors Guild

-I do not agree with the use of GenAi in creative fields, but I do like to keep up to date on what's going on with it, ethical concerns, how it's impacting readers, authors, publishers etc.
-I think this might be a fantastic option for debut or newer authors. Something to think about for sure.

David Gaughran

-This is all you need ot know on current book promotion websites.

Free Resource from author CD Reiss

-An absolutely essential resource for all authors on amazon to have. Everyone say thank you to CD Reiss for making this guide free for all of us!

Conclusion

That's all I have for you today! I hope you enjoy these, and maybe find something here useful to you.
Leave me a comment below with one of your favorite resources!

Where Have I Been? A Journal Entry on The Last Few Years

Introduction: Hey everyone! Happy New Year! I'm back! I know I haven't posted in over a year and I am here to tell you all about why and what's been going on. I hope your holidays went well, your writing and reading has been joyful, and that you are smashing your goals for the month already. I hope you are doing things you love that bring you happiness and may this year be the best for you! Things Didn't Go As I Planned... Here I am in 2026, not published, not a lot of my goals met that I have set year after year. Some new and some old. Putting out all my words of wisdom, writer advice, and failing at it myself. Story of my life. Lol  I know the secrets, but doing them for myself is a whole different ball game. I've been on a journey these last 5 years since I started writing and I've learned a lot, experienced a lot, and grown up a lot all on the road to success. It will happen for me. Just a few years later than I planned, and that is okay. My writing journey ...

Writing What You "should be" writing vs. Writing What you Love

As this year comes to a close, I wanted to share about the battle of writing what you think you should be writing vs. what you love. When I first started writing, I thought I should write a YA fantasy very much along the lines of Twilight. Now, I still love Twilight to this day as much as my 13 year old heart did, and I will forever be in the fandom and my heart in Forks, WA, but as I was writing my Twilight-esque book, I noticed it got harder and harder as I went on. I wasn't loving the book anymore. It's because I was reading and loving all of these steamy contemporary billionaire romance novels and that is where my heart was, and what I was supposed to be writing. Not forcing out a book that teenage me would like. Or I found "more respectable or credible" somehow. But the truth was I wasn’t reading YA anymore and  I shouldn’t have been writing in a genre I wasn’t passionate about anymore.   So, I quickly wrapped up that book to give myself some closure and then s...

February 2026 Recap

February 2026 Recap Introduction: Hey everyone! I hope you had a fabulous month! My February flew by, but I enjoyed every moment and was intentional with almost every day! I am continuing on in this new series where I recap each month to keep track of my year from the small stuff to the big stuff, so when January 1st 2027 gets here I'm not left thinking "What the heck happened in 2026?" If you missed January's recap where I explain more on this process and how I'm keeping track, you can read that here.  Recapping in Four Parts: Writing, Reading, Health, And Other Life Stuff Writing Habit Tracker: 20/28 writing days. Although the other 8 were still writing days for me. If you know, you know. Lol  Last month I told you I started a new book, and I am currently still drafting that book. I am making good progress and have been showing up daily to get in my word count! I have been back to my roots doing word sprints and that has really helped as well. Woo hoo! I am ...
