The Power of Making a Vision Board

Happy New Years Eve everyone! The past couple of weeks I have spent my time reflecting on 2023. Thinking on setbacks and achievements, and what I've learned. I swear each year I get older, the wiser I get. Youth really is wasted on the young. I'm 27 now, and each year of my 20s I feel like I improve and get clearer on what I really want. I am nowhere near the same person I was just a few years ago and thank God for that! Your 20s are for figuring yourself out and finding what you like to do. Finding your purpose and passion, and I fully stand by that. Not excluding that of course you can find passion and purpose at any age, but my 20s seem to have been very chaotic for me so far and now that I'm on the other side of my 20s things are slowing down.  It's so hard to know what you want to do, who you want to be, and it should be constantly evolving.

A few weeks ago, my mentor gave us some good homework to complete for going into 2024 and one of those things is to make a vision board. Now I am all into The Secret (Law of Attraction), so I have read about vision boards before and know what they are. But I have never sat down and physically made one before. I'm talking about buying a poster board, cutting, and pasting. Really crafting a board. So this time, I decided to do it.

And let me tell you, actually creating this physical board felt so much more real, magical, and important. The things on it, I know are already mine, and I can make all my dreams come true. Taking the time and care to craft it, and present it like show and tell to my husband, really solidified my goals and focus for the new year. It also provides accountability to my goals because I have a poster I can now hang up and see every day. I highly recommend making one, and not just saving a digital pinterest board. It gives a life to your vision board, and will light a fire in you.

Here is how you can make one too:

1.) Know your goals and how you want to feel for 2024. Write them down.

I thought hard on what my goals are for 2024, how I want to feel in 2024, and made sure I was set on those first. You need to know your goals and the feeling you want to have from that goal before you sit down to make the vision board. Everything should feel good and exciting. If you write something down and feel dread, cross it off.  The vision board is a visual representation of your goals. I wouldn't set a number of goals to have, but I wouldn't go crazy either. Really focus on what's most important. You'll probably end up with less than 10.

2.) Craft the Digital Board.

This is where you can use Pinterest first. I created a secret Pinterest board and saved photos and quotes that represent my goals and feelings for 2024. If I couldn't find a photo on pinterest that represented my goal, I made one in Canva and uploaded it to the board myself. In the end I had about 40 or so pins to my pinterest board.

Next, you want to save and download that Pinterest board so you can then print and cut out and glue your pins to an actual poster board. I am not tech savvy and it took me forever to figure out how to do this. Lol so I will link the youtube video  below that showed me how to download my board and print it. It was super easy to follow!

3.) Craft the Actual Board

Once you have all your pins printed you can then cut them out and arrange them how you want to on your poster board. I bought a poster board from walmart, any kind or size will do. I got the large one. I tried to arrange my pins by category like putting all my travel ones together, financial ones together, and writing ones together, but in the end I have some mixed up randomly. You arrange however you like it. I even ended up handwriting some quotes and words on my board that are important to me.

Then get some double sided tape, or a glue stick, whatever you have and start sticking everything down. I had a blast doing this and I am so proud of my board. I then pinned it up on my office wall so it is something I can look at everyday to focus and inspire me, and really visualize the life I am creating for myself. It really does empower me to keep going.

I'll share a photo of my vision board below, and let me know in the comments if you made a 2024 vision board, and if you have any tips for me!

Happy New Year everyone!

Hi! Welcome to my blog. Here you will find a collection of my thoughts on numerous topics surrounding the art of reading and writing books. I kept thinking about how I wanted a safe and cozy space to have an online presence in that was 100% positive and in my control.  A place that didn't leave my mind spinning and have me feeling bad like when I get on social media. A place to share longform content, and more information for writers. Social medi...

My Top 3 Writing Craft Books Of 2024

Hey writers! Today I'm sharing the books that I've found most helpful to me this year on my writing journey. Before I read these books and actually learned some real writing rules, tips, and how to construct a fictional story, my drafts were all over the place.  They were very disconnected and had no point to them. I didn't even know the basics like character goals, motivation, and conflict. And I learned that all fiction IS conflict.  So here are the top 3 books I've found that made a difference in my writing this year. They now sit permanently on my desk. These books taught me the very basics and gave me a road map to craft a story that finally had a purpose, cohesion, and most of all, conflict.  I have these linked in my Recommended Reads Page at the top of the blog. I hope these help you on your journey as much as they have me!   1 .) Passionate Ink by Angela Knight - The new edition is now available, but if you can get your hands on the old edition, I recom...

What Sparks a Story Idea in Me

A common question writers get is "Where do you get all these ideas from?" The truth is, it's different for every writer. Everyone's brain is different, and the way we create is all different. Which is one of the reasons it makes this writing journey so magical and beautiful.  It's also a reason there is room at the table for every single writer. Because no one can write a book exactly like you can. They will all be unique. Even if 10 writers are given the same story to write and the same characters, plot points, etc. You will still have 10 different books because everyone's brain will take a different creative journey to connect those plot points and get to "the end."  Today I'm sharing a glimpse into my process. How I get story ideas. Other authors may get ideas these ways too and others won’t. There is no wrong process in the ideation stage. It's whatever works for you. On that note, I want to share a quotes from Meghan March's Creativ...
